Under 6 Free GP Scheme & Over 70's Free GP Scheme

All our practices are participating in the Under 6 Free GP Scheme. and Over 70's Free GP Scheme. The scheme's commenced on July 1st and August 5th respectively, so please register as soon as possible.

Please note that the Under 6 GP Care Scheme applies up to 6 years of age (age 0 – 5).

From 5th August 2015 everyone aged 70 or over, ordinarily resident in Ireland, will be eligible for free GP care regardless of income.

What do you need to do?

Medical Card Holders: If you or your child/children have a Medical Card or GP Visit Card they will automatically be registered for these new schemes.

Non-Medical Card Holders: If you or your child/children do not have a Medical Card or GP Visit Card you must register for these new scheme at gpvisitcard.ie

Repeat Smears

We are providing repeat smears for any women concerned.  These smears are free of charge.

New Walk-In Clinics

We now have a 'Walk-In' clinic running every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings from 6.30pm - 8.00pm.  No appointment necessary.

Early morning Blood Test appointments now available

We are now offering early morning blood test appointments every Tuesday morning from 8.00am in the Kilnamanagh surgery.

Seasonal Influenza Vaccination 2017/2018

The Influenza Vaccine will be able shortly from all our surgeries.  Please contact your surgery for an appointment or if you have any queries relating to your eligibility for this vaccine.

Who should be vaccinated?

Vaccination is strongly recommended for:

  • Persons aged 65 and over
  • Those aged 6 months and older with a long-term health condition such as
  • Chronic heart disease (this includes anyone who has had of a "heart attack" or unstable angina)
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Chronic renal failure
  • Chronic respiratory disease, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) 
  • Cystic fibrosis, moderate or severe asthma or bronchopulmonary dysplasia
  • Chronic neurological disease including multiple sclerosis, hereditary and degenerative disorders of the  central nervous system
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Down syndrome
  • Haemoglobinopathies
  • Morbid obesity i.e. body mass index over 40
  • Immunosuppression due to disease or treatment
  • Children aged 6 months and older with any condition that can affect lung function especially those attending special schools/day centres with cerebral palsy or intellectual disability
  • Patients on long-term aspirin therapy (because of the risk of Reyes syndrome)
  • Pregnant women (vaccine can be given at any stage of pregnancy)
  • Healthcare workers
  • Residents of nursing homes and other long stay institutions
  • Carers
  • People with regular contact with pigs, poultry or water fowl.

How to Register for Non-Medical Card Holders

  • Step One: For the Under 6 Free GP Scheme: go to www.gpvisitcard.ie and follow the steps on the HSE website. You will need the PPS number of the child or children you wish to register and also the PPS number of the child's Parent/Guardian then follow Step 2.
  • Step One: For the Over 70's Free GP Scheme: go to www.gpvisitcard.ie and follow the steps on the HSE website. You will need your PPS number then follow Step 2.
  • Step 2: Select your current GP and practice from the list
  • Step 3: You will be notified by the HSE within 3 \ 4 days after you have been registered for the scheme

When you log in to register you or your child with your current practice you will see a list of doctors from your practice. You may not see the name of the doctor that you usually attend so please select one of the other principal doctors listed. We assure you that you can still make an appointment with and continue to be cared for by your usual GP.
